Ross Kilborn sent a great report through from the Moonah Project, on the Moonah Project.

 

I would describe the whole project as a Win, Win, Win, Win, Win  

 

1.      A win for the Community Support Centre. Last week’s auction raised nearly $5k and we expect more this week and even more the following week. This week’s on-line art auction looks to already have a lot of activity before closing Tuesday night. Before the auctions started around $1k had already been donated by people for furniture, and furniture was provided to the Centre itself for its own use.  I think we have built goodwill towards the centre including with Ryman.

 

2.      A win for Rotary. Ryman and the Centre both recognise and appreciate the great work put in by many Rotarians – over 50 days so far. Well done, especially to so many who have done so many days!

 

3.      A win for the buyers. Around 40 buyers who picked up goods last Thursday and Friday, many with trucks and trailers, were very, very happy with what they had bought. Most had not sighted it prior and had come from off the Peninsula to collect it. 

 

4.      A win for the environment.  We have avoided truckloads of stuff going to landfill or simply being demolished.

 

5.      A win for Ryman Healthcare. They have been able to clear a lot of furniture but also communicate with the many local visitors who have been to simply have a “sticky-nose”.

 

All up there are more than 800 lots in the auctions, many with multiple items. The third on-line auction opens this Thursday, with the commercial kitchen being the big attraction, together with billiard tables, a gym and more furniture. We don’t know what, if any will be left after, this and will work out a plan for it after we do know. Rosebud-Rye Rotary Warehouse is willing and able to take some of any leftovers.

 

We do of course have to pay Grays costs, but they have certainly demonstrated we could not have done it without them. And their marketing has taken it all over Australia with nearly 1000 people viewing some items.
