In this week’s Remember When column, Rotarian Hardy Juraschek speaks with the Editor about the almost three years that he has been a member of our Club.
In 2017, Hardy and his wife Annie were thinking about how they could best make a contribution to the Community.
After long and successful careers, they both wanted to give something back.
Hardy looked on the internet for information about service clubs and other charitable organisations in the Mt Eliza area.
Rotary seemed to tick all of the boxes and he made contact with the Club.
After learning more about Rotary and attending several dinner meetings at Toorak College, on 24 April 2018, Hardy and Annie both became members when President David Rew welcomed them into the organisation.
Hardy has thrown himself in at the deep end and has been involved in many of the Clubs initiatives and projects. As Editor, I remember well when Hardy participated in a fairly major activity - dismantling a full-sized children’s playground from a private residence in Mt Eliza, labelling and packing all of the parts and sending them off to a container to be transported to Sri Lanka where, together with a number of other playgrounds, it would be reassembled by local Rotarians for use by disadvantaged children.
Both Hardy and Annie are usually available for Bunnings BBQs and the Framers’ Market.
When not away they also participate in various club programs and projects.
Last year Hardy took responsible for delivery of the wine that the Club made available for sale to members and again this year he was happy to be involved (noting that he felt that this year’s red was not quite as good as last year).

Hardy & Annie have been most generous and have provided access to their holiday home at Metung as prizes for the Club raffle.
Hardy is a person of action. During the year that I was President (2018/19) on a number of occasions Hardy made contact with suggestions as to how we could improve on what we do or with ideas for new projects and initiatives. He continues to play this role with great enthusiasm.
Home hosting is a great way to enjoy fellowship and get to know other Rotarians and their partners.
Hardy and Annie very much enjoyed visiting Graham & Barbara Reid and Bernie & Leslie Edwards
In return they were delighted to be able to host Carolyn & Chris Such and John & Di Horscroft.
COVID-19 has restricted the work of our Club and fellowship during 2020. In spite of this Hardy has been one of our members who continues to be involved.
At the end of the2019/20 Rotary Year Annie decided that she would prefer to be a Friend of the Club and help out as appropriate.
Hardy continues on in our Club and he is looking forward to us being able to return to something like normal in 2021.
