Not a lot to report this week.  It was great to have the opportunity to catch up with the Bendigo Bank team last week.  We do get tremendous support in all our community projects not the least of which has been the construction of a new purpose built BBQ trailer.  Rowan Miller was thrilled to be able to thank them personally and get the joint photograph.  The Olympic gold medallists are doing it and so is Rowan.  

The Bendigo team also delivered a very informative presentation on giving us the tools to manage our internet banking affairs and avoid on-line scammers.  It’s a new world.

 

We do have an extra Bunnings BBQ coming up on 24^th August.  Annette Ferrier is away so the rostering duty has fallen to Carol Wallace.  George-Ann has sent an email to assess availability.  Please check and let her know.

 Our guest speaker is Alana Street.  Alana is well known to our Club.  She is a very experienced nurse who has worked in a number of remote locations around Australia and PNG.  She is going t update our knowledge on how to deal with snake bit.  Very timely with our local snakes beginning to wake up after the winter.  See as many as possible on-line.

Rowan was at Costco buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for his dog Necco, the Wonder Dog, which weighs 191 lbs.

He was in the check-out line when a woman behind him asked if he had a dog.

What did she think he had an elephant?

So because he’s retired and has little to do, on impulse he told her that no, he didn't have a dog, but that he was starting the Purina Diet again.

 

He added that he probably shouldn't, because he’d ended up in the hospital last time, but that he'd lost 50 pounds before he woke up in the intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of his orifices and IVs in both arms.

 

He told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is, to load your jacket pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and he was going to try it again.

 

Practically everyone in line was now enthralled with Rowan’s story. Horrified, she asked if he’d ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned him. Rowan told her no, he’d stopped to Pee on a Fire Hydrant and a car had hit him.
