Some great news has just come through.  We have two students from Toorak College that have been selected to attend National Youth Science (NYSF) in January 2025.    One student is attending the event being held in Canberra and the other is attending in Brisbane.  NYSF is a two week program to give Year 11 science students an opportunity to be exposed to the work of science and career pathways.  We will meet both students and their families before they go and also afterwards.
It was great to re-connect with an old friend Alana Street last week.  She really does have a fascinating life nursing in remote areas of Australia and the Pacific.  She was speaking to us via Zoom from the Tiwi Islands where she was relieving in the hospital.  She spoke about snake bite and the latest techniques.  She treats both the people and also some of the smaller animals for snake bite when required.  She mentioned the Rioli and Tipen Woody famous football families who are there in numbers.
On Wednesday 14th the International Committee plus extras attending Dromana Rotary for an Interplast presentation.  Six Rotary Clubs from our community group were represented.  We heard an excellent update presentation and the doctor who we supported to come to the plastics surgery conference.  The re was very good support for the new proposal to send a nurse educator from Australia to Tonga for a week to run both theory and practical workshops for a group of 30 local nurses.

There is a Bunnings BBQ next Saturday 24th .   Carol will send out the roster before our meeting on Tuesday.  We need to make sure the roster is filled.

Brynton's Joke of the Week
 Brynton's Joke of the Week

A blonde wanted to try out ice fishing. She went out and purchased all the gear she would need and headed to a local spot to try to catch some fish.

She went out onto the ice with her gear, and after getting comfy on the stool, she started to cut a circular hole in the ice as she had seen on the internet. As she was cutting, she heard a voice from the heavens speak out, saying,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE."

The blonde was startled. She stood up and looked around, but saw no one. Cautiously, she moved a little further out onto the ice and set up in a different spot. She sipped some hot chocolate from her thermos, and then started cutting another hole. Again, the voice called out, seemingly from all around her,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE."

Now feeling quite scared, and starting to get a bit frustrated, she moved all the way to the far end of the ice, and laid out all her gear, sat upon her stool and started cutting another hole. Right away, the heavenly voice boomed out, this time louder than ever,

"THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE!"

She jumped off her stool and looked all around her. She shouted to the heavens,

"IS THAT YOU, LORD?"

The voice answered,

"NO. THIS IS THE MANAGER OF THE ICE SKATING RINK. THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE!"
