Hi everybody

Our meeting tomorrow, 19 January will again be via Zoom.

Please remember that there is no meeting next week as 26 January is Australia Day. I must thank Linda Morris for her outstanding contributions to the Club and in particular the customised Australia Day celebrations that she has organised for this year. In spite of COVID we are able to continue to operate as close to normal as possible.

Our first meeting at Toorak will be on the following Tuesday, 2 February. May I ask all members who intend being present that evening to please notify Secretary Pauline? There is a limit of 30 people who are able to attend. Our reduced numbers mean that we should be able to accommodate almost everyone who wishes to attend. If necessary, a ballot will be held. The meeting will also be available for attendance via Zoom.

By early February I anticipate being able to share with members our priorities for the remainder of the Rotary Year. In particular the Club Visioning exercise that will be proceeding as soon as possible.

Finally, as mentioned by Past President Ross in his final column last week and reported to the Club by Club Service Director Neil, it is wonderful that our International Exchange Student, Chloe Holmes, has returned safely from Finland. Welcome home Chloe!

Until next time
Yours in Rotary
Sue

District Governor Mark Humphries and Past President Linda Humphries

Greetings to all members of the Rotary Club of Mt Eliza and other readers of this Bulletin.

Have you thought about joining a Rotary Fellowship Group?
I have mentioned fellowship groups before, many Rotarians from our District belong to fellowship groups, including snow skiers, 4-wheel drivers, caravan, whisky to name a few.

These people get to experience Rotary in a very different light, they get to see Rotary in Action, and through there activities, they are supporting each other, working with and supporting other communities and importantly changing people’s lives.

As the holiday season comes to a close and as we prepare for the remainder of this Rotary Year, this may be a great time to expand your Rotary involvement through fellowship.

Until next time
Warm regards
Mark & Linda
Stories
Club News
Members were fascinated by the life story told by our guest speaker Ben Roff.

Now training to be a barrister, Ben, whose topic was Variety is the Spice of Life,  has held a large variety of roles over the last twenty or so years, He has worked in a large variety of jobs including being a writer, publisher, cocktail barman, sommelier, restaurant manager, builders labourer, travel expert and courier. As his cousin Judy Coultas says, "Ben is an inspiring young man with some good messages for grandparents and people not sure of their future."

Welcome home to Chloe Holmes, our International Exchange Student who has been in Finland since late last year.

Thanks to everyone who assisted with the Bunnings BBQ on 10 January. It is great to be back with some of our favourite fundraising activities.

Members intending to be present our our first Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, 2 February are asked to advise Secretary Pauline as soon as possible.

Please remember that there is no meeting next Tuesday 26 January, Australia Day.

Laughter The Best Medicine
Zoom meetings are basically seances with the living ... Hello John. are you there? Make a sound if you can hear us! Is anyone with you? Can you hear us?

I told a joke on my Zoom meeting. It wasn't even remotely funny.

I showed up late for a Zoom meeting. When asked for a reason, I confessed, "You wouldn't believe the network traffic!"

I feel really bad for the class of 2020. They say that time really flies. I just didn't realise that it would Zoom.
