It’s been a rare quiet week for the club except for those helping on the Great Aussie Hike! Thanks to all who’ve volunteered (including Carolyn who volunteered to fly to Port Douglas while the rest are guiding the hikers….)
Last week’s program featured David Quinn from the Over 55 Club. We learned a lot about the club and role they play in the community. David and his wife Teresa are deeply involved in that effort. Their AGM is this coming Friday and several of us are going.
The District Conference registration site is live. The Conference is March 12-14 in the Hunter Valley. For those of you on the fence of deciding to go or not, they have confirmed that they want me to speak. My hope is that this will attract a few more from our club and not drive them away.
Plans are progressing for the Golf Day. We have a tentative date in April but we’re going through the process of verifying it.
Thank you to my colleagues at Rotary and all that you do!
Mt Eliza Rotarians act as Marshalls for the Great Aussie Hike
The Great Aussie Hike was held again this weekend (Saturday 17th October).
This year the hike was held over three aligned trails of 40, 30 and 20 km. Hikers commenced at Gunnamatta and trekked to Nazaaray Winery on the Southern Mornington Peninsula. The first hikers got underway at 6.00 am and depending on time and distance hundreds and hundreds of walkers arrived at the winery from early to ;ate afternoon.
As in past years many Mt Eliza Rotarians answered to call to be Marshalls along the various trails across the Southern Peninsula including the Mornington Peninsula and Green Bush National Parks.
It was a beautiful sunny day for a walk with no wind as walkers traversed the beautiful Southern Peninsula.
Thanks very much to all Rotarians who volunteered and in particular to Carol Allen and Jan Berg who submitted photos.

The guest speaker at our Dinner Meeting at Toorak College on 13 October was David Quinn, President of the Mt Eliza 55 Plus Club.
David outlined the many activities that the 430 plus members of this Club enjoy including dancing, cards, table tennis, tai chi and zumba. The Club offers older members of our community with opportunities for friendship, connection and other social interaction.
In outlining the recent $65,000 refurbishment of the Club kitchen, David expressly thanked the Rotary Club of Mt Eliza for our contribution of $7000 towards new kitchen appliances.
Thanks to David for a most interesting and positive presentation.

Our Three Minute Speaker this week was Rotarian Mary Hunt who reflected upon her first full year as a Mt Eliza Rotarian.
Speaking with glee and enthusiasm Mary talked about learning how to really clean a Bunnings BBQ, how to stay dry when on the gate at a wet Farmers Market and her delight to be involved as our lead on It's OK, not to be OK.
Being a Rotarian has been an important part of Mary's life especially following the sudden passing of her husband, Jamie, who was a much loved member of our Club. Mary spoke about how welcomed she had been made feel and the new friendships that she has made through our lab.
Thank you Mary for a delightful, poignant, presentation.
