President’s Message April 27

Presidents Message May 4
Well, I didn’t think I would be writing this from isolation at home this year without being at the meeting! I assume all went well and my thanks to PP Sue and PE John for taking over for me this week. For the record, I have been treated fairly gently by Covid19 so far. All I had was a cold like virus with a side effect of blocked ears and less energy than usual. I slept more than usual in the first few days. I am now well on the way to recovery.
A couple of good things to report this week. We have established a good contact within the Shire Council, Hannah Brown, who liaises between all the different community environmental groups in the Shire. Through this we can be involved in helping all the “Friends of …”  groups with their environmental projects. Many of these groups are small in number so need help with the work they are doing. Two of them are in that situation and we have been asked to assist them with their tree planting in coming month. The Satellite Club is going to organize a day on a weekend with the Friends of Ranelagh at the foreshore and we have offered to help the Friends of JT Smith Reserve in the village behind the Scout Hall. This is in the morning on Saturday May 14 9.30am – 11.00am. Hopefully a number of us can help before we get organized for Internationals Parma Night. We need to show our Vaccination certificate for both of those.
Keeping on the Environmental theme, we are also supervising the students from Peninsula Grammar planting trees at the Moorooduc Station this coming Wednesday at 2.00pm. I hope we can get 3-4 of us present. This is part of our Bay trail project.

We are coming up to a busy Month. Remember there is no meeting at Toorak next week. The meeting has been moved to  Saturday, May 14th  at St James the Less church hall. This should be another fun night with our favorite chef, PE John, creating “parmas” and other delights for us to feast on. BYO drinks and glasses and book via Humanatix asap. Partners, friends and guests all welcome. The normal meeting fee, $33,  applies. To book click on the link below
The Joint meeting of the Board will be held next Wednesday, so if you have any items you would like to be raised for next year please send the item to Secretary Pauline. This means of course that the Changeover Dinner is coming up at Peninsula Grammar on Tuesday, June 7th. District Governor Paul Mee will be attending to doth honours of installing John Welsh as our President for 2022-23.
All things going to plan I will see you all at one of the tree plantings, the Parma Night or our next meeting at Toorak College.
Stories
Centenary Project - Bay Trail
UPDATE
The main progress is all about Grants. We are well on tyhe way to obtain a grant for $5500 From the Queens 60th Jubillee Tree Planting Project/Fund to cover our budgeted costs to plant 1000 trees along the trail between Moorooduc Station and Wooralla Drive. Hopefully that will bear fruit shortly. The other exciting news is the announcement made by Dan Tehan that if re-elected the Federal government is planning to add $5million to complete the link from  Moorooduc to Mornington to the growing list of government grants (now $22 million) to complete the trail. It appears our lobying is having an effect.

The Bay Trail is the Centenary Project of our cluster of Rotary Clubs. One of the key sections is the missing link in the region our Club covers - Moorooduc Station to Mornington. The great news is that the local federal member Greg Hunt, is supporting a grant of $2 million of federal funding for the Mornington Mt Eliza link. However, for  3 clubs, Mt Eliza, Mt Martha and Mornington the critical piece is Moorooduc to Mornington and connecting the Harap Creek Trail to the Briars, so more funding will be required. Keep lobbying the politicians.
