President's Message - Carolyn Such

Message from President Carolyn

Last Tuesday’s Club meeting was very busy.  We presented our Shine on Award to Paul Hamilton.    It was lovely to have the Principal of Peninsula School Stewart Johnson with us and also Paul’s wife Jenny and son Simon.   Paul received the award for his effort within his work place and also his commitment to community work.

We also had a presentation from Russell Hayes who is the East Coat representative for Wheelchairs for Kids (WFK).  WFK provides low cost, functional wheelchairs for individuals in third world countries.   In his presentation Russell showed children receiving their wheelchairs.  It was very inspiring and quite emotional.  We also arranged for two senior primary students from Mount Eliza Primary School to come to hear the presentation.  We are hoping that we have motivated them to encourage their fellow students to get involved in running a wheelchair marathon event at the school in the second half of the year.  The objective is to raise awareness and raise money for WFK.

With the students and their teacher present it was a good opportunity to present them with a Club donation of $1000 for books at the school.  Phil Key organised a wine raffle to raise the money.  Thanks Phil.

This weekend is also busy with a team from Mount Eliza Rotary manning the BBQ at Fusion in Mount Martha.  This event is at the invitation of Mayor Simon Brooks to support volunteers at Fusion whilst they man a working bee.  Somerville Tyabb and Mount Martha Rotary Clubs are working together to make it happen.  Sunday is the Farmers Market where we will be pleased to show off our brand new BBQ trailer all gloriously sign written.

At the time of writing we have 68 attendees for the Changeover next Tuesday.  I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Update from Linda Morris Mount Eliza  Neighbourhood House

Rotary donated $200.00 towards food for community lunch at the neighbourhood house, together with some groceries from their pantry which support members of our community experiencing financial difficulties. Jo, the house manager came into Riches and selected all items which ensured they received only needed supplies and maximise their effectiveness of the contribution.
I have also recently delivered supplies, beanies and socks to the house for distribution to those in need at this cold time of the year

Brynton's Joke of the Week
 Brynton's Joke of the week

A man starts work in a zoo. It’s a big zoo so they give him a golf buggy to drive between the different parts of the site.

Anyway, he’s in the bird house. He finishes what he’s doing and gets into the golf buggy. But because he’s not used to it, he accidentally puts it into reverse.

Suddenly he hears a *thump*.

He climbs out of the golf buggy and realizes he’s run over a chaffinch.

Not wanting to get into trouble, he decides to dispose of the body. So he drives over to the lion enclosure, and chucks the chaffinch’s body over the fence, in the hope that the lions will eat the evidence.

Anyway, later, he’s in the monkey house. He finishes what he’s doing and gets into the golf buggy. The same thing happens and he accidentally puts it into reverse again.

Sure enough, he hears another *thump*.

He climbs out of the golf buggy again, and this time he’s run over a couple of chimpanzees.

He drives over to the lion enclosure again, and chucks the chimpanzee bodies over the fence, in the hope that the lions will eat the evidence.

Anyway, later, he’s in the insect house. He finishes what he’s doing and gets back into the golf buggy. Inevitably, he accidentally puts it into reverse again.

*Thump*.

This time, he’s run over a bees’ nest and crushed all the bees into a gooey paste.

He scoops up the mess, drives over to the lion enclosure, and chucks it all over the fence.

The next day a new lion arrives at the zoo.

‘Alright?’ he says to the other lions. ‘Alright?’, they reply.

‘What’s this zoo like then?’, he asks. ‘It’s OK’ they reply.

‘What’s the food like?’

‘It’s OK. Yesterday, we had finch, chimps and mushy bees’.
