President's Message - Carolyn Such

Carolyn Such

Thanks those members who were able to man the roster to sell Legacy badges at Bunnings on Friday. Peninsula Legacy are most appreciative and will come to a Club meeting and have dinner to thank us in person.
Our guest speaker last week was Dr Brian O’Donnell who spoke about ‘Victims of Crime”.  Brian was a previous member of our Club for eight years but moved out of the area. He was warmly welcomed back particularly by those members who remembered Brian.

I want to draw members attention to the visit to the Tar Barrel Brewery on Tuesday 17th September. Details are elsewhere in the bulletin including the Humanitex booking link. It is important to get sufficient numbers because we have guaranteed a minimum number and they are opening for us as a special event.

Thank you to the sub-committee working on our inaugural spring carnival themed fashion parade. The bookings are filling fast due to efforts of the indefatigable Linda Morris. The date is Thursday 10 th Oct and details are in this bulletin. It should be a fun event with funds
raised going to forgotten cancers.
I will be attending the next meeting of our Frankston Mornington Peninsula Community
Group this Sunday 8 th . It will be interesting to interact and see what everyone is up to. I will
be promoting our 2025 Interplast project. Although it is 2025 we need Clubs to commit now.

3 Minute Speaker - Mike Weber

Mike gave a very empathic and personal talk about the work her does for Foster kids after his own history of being a Foster kid.

A Better Life for Foster Kids is a Restorative Framework embracing

Justice  Prudence  Fortitude  Temperance

Their Mission is to provide an immediate reality of financial support for crisis suitcases, with the possibility of further augmented care in the journey of the foster child.

There is opportunity for affixing a logo or sticker on the suitcase, though actual tracking of the foster child is protected through the Dept. of Child Protection. However, the Charity has a private web page and Facebook, where parents register as a means of self-diagnosing of issues with aims of building normality in the foster child’s life through assimilation with other children in the household.

This gives us the opportunity to further help the foster child via the carer, organised through A Better Life for Foster Kids

Our Main Speaker was Professor Dr Brian O'Donnell D Sc.
Professor (Dr) Brian O'Donnell D Sc. has been chair of VOCAL for 25 years since his step daughter was murdered by Peter Dupas.
VOCAL was established by people who lost a love ones through murder. It's initial purpose was request
Governments of both persuasions to take away the privileges from murders that at the time were excessive,
like early release from sentences for good behaviour.
VOCAL has now changed direction and targets social issues of the day such as juvenile criminal behavior.
Brian is an former Rotarian with 30 years experience.

Brynton's Joke of the Week
 Brynton's Joke of the Week
with Apologies from Editor

A lawyer boarded an aeroplane in Dublin with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him.

She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's fridge.

He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in a very haughty manner that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to rant at her about what would happen if she let them thaw out.

Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior.

Shortly before landing in London, she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, "Would the lawyer who gave me the crabs in Dublin, please raise your hand?"

Not one hand went up.... So she took them home and ate them.

Two lessons here:

1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are.

2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folk think

3. Editor's note - Blondes aren't dumb at all!!!!
