The Rotary Club of Mount Eliza recently welcomed Chrestyna Kmetj and special guest Anastasia for an evening that highlighted the human side of humanitarian support and the importance of global community connections.

Chrestyna shared insights from her recent visit to Ukraine and reflected on the challenges faced by families whose lives have been disrupted by conflict. Rather than focusing on politics, her message centred on the experiences of ordinary people, the importance of hope, and the role that communities around the world can play in supporting those facing hardship.

Anastasia, who has made her home in Australia with her children, spoke movingly about resilience, gratitude and the kindness she has experienced from the local community. Her story reminded everyone present that behind every humanitarian crisis are individuals and families striving to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future.

The evening also celebrated a project that has become a source of pride for the Rotary Club of Mount Eliza. Following discussions with Rotary partners in Berdychiv, Ukraine, the club raised funds to provide a water filtration system for a local school. The system is now delivering clean, safe drinking water to students and staff, supporting both health and wellbeing.

Access to clean water is one of the most basic human needs. Through Rotary's global network and the generosity of club members and supporters, a practical solution was delivered where it was needed most.

The presentation served as a powerful reminder that Rotary's impact extends far beyond local communities. Whether supporting local initiatives on the Mornington Peninsula or partnering with communities overseas, Rotary members are united by a commitment to service, compassion and creating positive change.

The Rotary Club of Mount Eliza extends its sincere thanks to Chrestyna and Anastasia for sharing their experiences and perspectives. Their stories reinforced the importance of empathy, friendship and humanitarian action, and demonstrated how communities working together can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

For Rotary Club of Mount Eliza, this project reflects the enduring belief that even a single act of service can have a lasting impact.
