Rotary Members Share Travel Tales
At our recent Rotary meeting, members were transported across two continents through the stories of Neil and John, who shared highlights from their recent travels.
Neil’s African Adventure
Neil journeyed to Tanzania, where he experienced the contrasts of this vibrant and welcoming country. From the spice markets of Zanzibar to the sweeping plains of the Serengeti, his travels took in both cultural insights and unforgettable wildlife encounters. He spoke of the Maasai people and their traditions, the rules of safari life, and the awe of seeing elephants, lions, giraffes and zebras in their natural habitat. He also shared the story of Tanzanite, the rare gemstone unique to Tanzania, and how it has become a symbol of the country.

John’s French Sojourn
John, meanwhile, shared his time in France, where he and Ingrid lived in a rural village house. Their days were filled with gardening, cooking, exploring historic towns, and enjoying the rhythm of French life. He described the Saturday markets overflowing with fresh produce, the joy of making bread in a centuries-old oven, and the deep history of the region, from medieval churches to the Camino pilgrimage route. John also reflected on the simple but remarkable quality of French food and the way local culture thrives in village communities.

Inspiration for Us All
Though very different in destination and experience, both stories reminded us of the joys of travel – of meeting new people, discovering different cultures, and seeing the world through fresh eyes. They sparked plenty of questions, laughter, and perhaps some new travel plans among our members.
We thank Neil and John for sharing their journeys with us and inspiring us to look at the world with curiosity and appreciation.
