Rotary Celebrates Community Spirit with Special Awards
At our recent Rotary meeting, we were proud to shine a light on two outstanding individuals whose contributions reflect the true spirit of “Service Above Self.”
Charlie Clarke – Community Environmental Award
Charlie Clarke was honoured with a Rotary Community Award for his exceptional work leading Year 9 students from the local school in environmental rehabilitation along the Mornington Railway corridor.
Charlie, a retired teacher with a background in agricultural science and biology, has spent the last four years coordinating student planting days, during which over 1,000 native trees have been planted. His commitment extends to preserving rare native species, including the purple Diuris orchid, and restoring biodiversity along a 6-kilometre stretch of disused rail land.
He’s not only a bridge between Rotary and youth but also a shining example of how lifelong passion for the environment can inspire the next generation.
"There’s a real disconnect between young people and the environment – my goal has always been to help them reconnect with nature and real-world learning." – Charlie Carr
We thank Charlie for his tireless service and are proud to recognise him as a valued partner in our community projects.
Bella Potter– Shine On Award Recipient
The Shine On Recognition Award was presented to Bella Potter, a remarkable young woman whose journey has turned personal challenge into purpose.
After moving from mainstream schooling to a specialist school, Bella found her calling in special needs education. She not only completed her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education but also volunteered weekly at her former specialist school.
Through determination, Bella secured a role in special education while continuing her studies, now aiming for her Certificate IV. Her focus remains clear: to create joyful, supportive spaces for children with additional needs.
"In recognition of volunteering and outstanding achievements in special needs education, focusing on ability, not disability." – From Bella’s Shine On award plaque
Bella's story is a testament to courage, kindness, and perseverance. We wish her every success in her future studies and her mission to make a difference in children’s lives.
