Born into a middle-class family, Peter developed an early interest in engineering and chose to study civil engineering at university. Rather than following the traditional path into government employment, he joined an engineering and construction company, beginning a career that would take him across Australia and overseas.
One of the early highlights was a year in Vancouver working in the paper industry, where he gained valuable experience on major pulp mill projects. On returning to Australia, Peter worked on significant engineering and construction projects in Melbourne before moving into management roles.
His career subsequently took him to Canberra and Sydney, where he worked on a range of large-scale projects, including some of Australia's major infrastructure developments. His Canadian experience proved particularly valuable on several projects, helping his company diversify into new areas of work.
Peter eventually returned to Melbourne, where his career included involvement in major construction projects, including work associated with the MCG. His career has been characterised by large and complex projects, problem-solving and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to build strong relationships with clients, contractors and colleagues.
Away from work, Peter and his family have built their life on the Mornington Peninsula.
Peter's story provided members with an entertaining glimpse into a long and varied engineering career, from Canada to major Australian infrastructure projects, and the experiences that have shaped him along the way.
