Member Spotlight: Nina Da Silva – Service with Heart

Our Rotary Club is made up of people who quietly get on with making the world a better place – and Nina Da Silva is a beautiful example of exactly that.

Nina is someone who leads with compassion, humility and a deep sense of responsibility to others. She doesn’t seek attention or accolades, but her impact – both locally and internationally – speaks volumes.

Many of our members recently had the privilege of hearing Nina share the story of a small, remote village in southern India that she and her husband have been visiting for many years. What began as regular travel has grown into a heartfelt commitment to people who face daily challenges most of us can barely imagine: limited access to education, healthcare, transport, electricity, and opportunity.

Nina spoke about families walking long distances just to reach basic services, children struggling to attend school, and communities working tirelessly to survive with dignity. She also shared stories of resilience, generosity, faith, and extraordinary warmth – including the unforgettable welcome she and her husband received when they became the first foreigners to ever visit the village.

What stood out most was not just the hardship, but Nina’s respect for the people she described. She spoke with empathy, admiration, and genuine connection – never as an outsider “helping”, but as someone who sees their humanity first.

Through practical support, ongoing visits, and personal relationships, Nina and her husband have helped provide food, household supplies, clothing, and hope to dozens of families. But just as importantly, they have offered something harder to measure: dignity, visibility, and the knowledge that their lives matter.

This spirit is at the very heart of Rotary.

Nina reminds us that service doesn’t always start with big projects or formal programs. Sometimes it begins with listening. With showing up. With building trust. With choosing to care – consistently and quietly – year after year.

We are incredibly grateful to have Nina as part of our club. Her global perspective, her kindness, and her steady commitment to fairness and compassion enrich our Rotary family and inspire us all to think beyond our own borders.

Thank you, Nina, for the way you live our values, not just speak them.
