An Australian Rotarian who was a medical doctor attended an International Conference in Tokyo as a keynote speaker.
The Australian carefully prepared his speech on the topic of "Australia's System of Universal HealthCare".
In order to lighten things up he added into his speech a story; a lengthy joke about an Australian male who went into hospital for what he thought was an emergency but which turned out to be minor surgery. A bit like Australian men suffering from "MAN 'FLU".
The doctor took nearly five minutes to tell his story.
The interpreter then quickly translated the story using only a couple of sentences. The room rocked with laughter.
After his speech, the doctor was curious and he asked the interpreter how he had been able to translate the story so quickly.
The interpreter replied, "Well to be honest I didn't think that they would get your story, so I said, our guest has just told a joke, please laugh out loud!"
