Year 11 students at Mt Eliza Secondary College (MESC) recently had the exciting opportunity to meet Luke, Gus and Jacob from Block Tradies, who visited the school to speak about careers in the trades, industry experiences and future pathways.
The opportunity came about through a valuable community connection initiated by RCME member Cathryn Leonard, who introduced Sue Mason, CEO of the Mount Eliza Chamber of Commerce, to Erin Macher from the education support team at MESC. Sue then collaborated with The Block Project Manager to organise the presentation for students.
Adding to the significance of the visit, Luke himself attended Mt Eliza Secondary College years ago, making it particularly meaningful for him to return and share his journey with current students.
The presentation generated enormous interest and enthusiasm amongst the students, who were highly engaged throughout the session and are now hopeful of visiting The Block site in the future to gain further insight into the building and construction industry.
This initiative highlights the power of collaboration between schools, community organisations, local business networks and industry professionals in creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
