President's Message - Carolyn Such

Last Sunday was not a brilliant day from the point of view of the weather. However, the results from our BBQ at Bunnings were quite good considering.

Thanks to all our new members who helped man the roster on the day. Its good to have some new people understand what happens. The funds raised go into Club coffers so that we can do things such support our two candidates to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January 2025.

Our Rotary Fashion Parade next Thursday 10th October is fully booked. The 120 attendees will enjoy lunch and see some of the latest fashions on display at Mornington Golf Club. This should be a fun day. Like any new event it has been a lot of work for the organising committee. Thanks to everyone for their efforts. We have been fortunate to get sponsorship from the Community Bank for $1500 and lots of auction and raffle prizes that have been donated. Funds raised will be directed to Anti-Cancer Councils project on forgotten cancers.

We will have a speaker with us on the day.

Thanks to Frank Flowers for his organisation of a vocational night on Tuesday night. We had presentations from three local businesses who spoke about their businesses. A consistent theme was their emphasis on giving good service to the community. It was a big night and they all spoke to me about the friendly atmosphere in our Club. It was good to hear.

Remember that there will be no Rotary meeting next Tuesday 8th . Judy has gone on a very well earned strike.

Re Musical Enrichment Program
In collaboration with MSO -Classic for Kids (MEP, CFK)

Andrea Galgoczi- Kratochvie @ RCS-, initiated this amazing and successful program this year with RC Sorrento, Rosebud, Rye taking 15 children/teachers / Rotarians to Classic for Kids.  She has offered RC in our district to participate in this wonderful musical event for 2025.
President Carolyn has accepted on behalf of our club to participate in this project.

It will entail inviting 6 children, 1 chaperone and travel arrangements to/from Hamer Hall (+Rotarians!!)
from the 3 primary schools in Mt Eliza, funded by RCME

I have invited Andrea to our club 19th November to present this project giving us more up to date information of the program content, how it will work, costs/logistics involved etc.

In preparation for this I have sent emails to 3 primary schools-, (principals/Director of Music) @ MENPS, MEPS, KPS with brief detais  about this project, inviting them to participate, and also invited them to join us for the  information night 19th November. Hopefully I will get some positive feedback and interest from them!!

I have submitted a preliminary business plan to our board for this MEP.

If this meets with enthusiasm from our primary schools this project could become an uplifting yearly project for RCME and perhaps reaching out to other primary schools in our vicinity to participate also.

And it will help endorse our ongoing relationships and community committments- old+new - with these schools.

Cathryn.

Brynton's Joke of the Week
Brynton's Joke of the Week
Recently, while going through an airport during one of his many trips, President Bush encountered a man with long grey hair and beard, wearing a white robe and sandals, holding a staff. President Bush went up to the man and said, "Has anyone told you that youlook like Moses?" The man didn’t answer.

He just kept staring straight ahead. The president said, "Moses!" in a loud voice. The man just stared ahead, never acknowledging the president.

The president pulled a Secret Service agent aside and, pointing to the robed man, asked him, “Am Icrazy or does that man not look like Moses to you?

The Secret Service agent looked at the man and agreed. “Well, said the president, "Every time I say his name, he ignores me and stares straight ahead, refusing to speak. Watch! “Again the president yelled, "Moses!”, and again the man ignored him.

The Secret Service agent went up to the man in the white robe and whispered,

“You look just like Moses. Are you Moses?"

The man leaned over and whispered back,"Shhhhh!

“ Yes, I am Moses. The last time I talked to a bush, I spent 40 years wandering in the desert and ended up leading my people to the only spot in the entire Middle East with no oil.
