From the President.
When I joined Rotary Mount Eliza, I was told that only the Secretary had access to the email address of each member. I was puzzled, because certainly we should not mind receiving emails from other members. Perhaps it was due to the lack of security with Google; in any event when I became Secretary I was ‘reminded’. This idiosyncrasy involved me on countless occasions acting as a ‘mailbox’, like it or not. Yet the solution, which offers both access and privacy was always available, and still is.
Every Rotarian has, along with their badge and Club ‘I.D.’ has always had an individual password to access the ClubRunner site. All members World – wide are on it, with access [on a Club basis]. to others in our Club. On the ClubRunner email site you simply add the recipients by name from our Member list. When you get a reply, it goes to your email address, which is not shown to the sender.
It may surprise you just how many requests the Secretary receives for acting as a conduit. The use of The ClubRunner email service helps her immensely.
The CFA Mount Eliza. BART - Broadcast Alert Respond Turnout
The BART System is used by in excess of 40 thousand emergency services personnel, Australia – wide. Seamless communication and ‘single – touch’ incident responses are but one benefit. A comprehensive description of this service to our community is available from our CFA or online. BART is not just an alarm system; it tracks every aspect of an emergency, tracks assets for deployment, records responders, times, appliances and locations. All communications are also logged. CFA Members will now receive messages on their phone or other compatible device via the BART App, when there is an emergency.
At the instigation of Linda, we agreed that [via our Trust] to fund approximately $1,100.00; this sum to cover a ‘BART license for the CFA Mt Eliza. A notice is to be placed on the inside of the Rotary Board that RCME support the CFA Mt Eliza.
The Board and The Trust approved funding for this Year. The CFA will re-apply annually, and the decision regarding continuation will be the - up to the incoming Board.
Paul Harris Fellows
I was pleased that the PHF Selection Panel saw fit to award David Morris a well – earned and overdue recognition for his selfless support of our Community [and beyond] over many Years. David is, in addition, a valued supported of a plethora of RCME initiatives and activities. His interest in every aspect of the projects we undertake is also evident by his selfless attendance at many of them. Our Club, and indeed Rotary, is the better for David’s support.
Likewise Carolyn Such, who has been a Member ‘for ever’, and held a significant number of portfolios, was awarded a PHF +2 sapphire PHF. I am pleased that Carolyn saw fit to join the current Board; her enthusiasm for her current role is matched only by her intimidation of me. I am not sure how Carolyn and husband Chris [President Somerville – Tyabb] manage their work loads. The Club, District and beyond are grateful to Carolyn for her unstinting efforts.
Both awards were presented by Steve Daly, Assistant Governor. Steve made a special visit for these presentations, and also to discuss his ‘hobby’ The National Youth Science Forum.
