Hi everybody

At this week's meeting members had the opportunity to further work on our Club Visioning Project.

The most successful Rotary clubs are those that:
  • Sustain and increase membership
  • Implement successful service projects
  • Support the Rotary Foundation
  • Develop leaders in the Club and beyond
At this week's meeting those in attendance broke into groups to consider a Vision for our Club, Community Service, International, Club Administration, Public Image, Youth & Vocational.

Based on my observations, there was considerable discussion as people came up with some excellent ideas and suggestions.

Everything will now be collated and presented to the Board for further consideration.

It is now only two weeks to go until our 50th anniversary Celebration on 25 May. If you haven't already booked may I ask you to do so now.

Until next time
Yours in Rotary
Sue

District Governor Mark Humphries and Past President Linda Humphries

Greetings to all members of the Rotary Club of Mt Eliza and other readers of this Bulletin.

This week, for this information of readers, I thought that I would provide some information about Rotary International's operations and offices around the world.

The World Headquarters of Rotary International are located at One Rotary Center, located in Evanston, Illinois, USA.

Rotary is a global service organization for people who share a passion for, and a commitment to, enhancing communities and improving lives both locally and around the world. Tours of the headquarters are open to Rotarians and members of the public.

Hopefully in a post COVID environment we will be able to begin travelling again and now is a good time to think about and plan a visit to RI in a couple of years time.

At One Rotary Center Rotarians can learn more about our global activities, explore interactive exhibits, and be inspired to take action.

If you visit the RI website you can take a virtual tour of One Rotary Center.

Evanston is a city in the Chicago area in the United States. Located in Cook CountyIllinois, United States, it situated on the North Shore along Lake Michigan. Evanston is 12 miles (19 km) north of Downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, Wilmette to the north, and Lake Michigan to the east.

Incorporated in 1863, Evanston has a population of approximately 75,000 people.

Evanston is home to Northwestern University, founded before the city's incorporation in 1855, and is one of the world's leading research universities.[7]

In addition to our world HQ, Rotary has regional offices in the Phillipines, Australia (at Parramatta, NSW), India (New Delhi), South Korea (Seoul), Japan (Tokyo), Brazil (Sao Paulo) and Switzerland (Zurich).

If any Rotarian is travelling to any of these places into the future, I encourage you to consider visiting our international offices.

Until next time
Warm regards
Mark & Linda

CLUB NEWS
Club Visioning

This week, on 11 May, we had a Club Night led by President elect/ Club Service Director Neil Heron and President Sue.

The evening was used to do further work on our Club Visioning Project.

Those in attendance broke up into groups to work on International, Community Service, Fund-raising Youth and Vocation.  Each group was also asked to develop a specific vision for our Club in five years time.

Responses from each group will be collated and referred to the Board for further consideration.

Golf Day Result

On behalf of David Rew it was reported that the 30 April Golf Day looks like raising approximately $14000. David will report on the final amount later this month.

Every cent of this money will go to the charity, Shine for Kids, on the Mornington Peninsula.

A wonderful result. Thank you and warm congratulations to David & Grace, the Golf Committee and all of those who contributed to this highly successful day.

Welfare Report

Our Welfare Office George-Ann reported to this week's meeting that Rhonda Vincent is on the mend and hopefully we will see her back at the Club in the next couple of weeks.

Bernie Edwards reported that Friend of the Club and former Rotarian Tim Acton is in hospital will several issues. Tim looks like staying in hospital for at least another week. Everyone sends him their best wishes.

Welcome Guest - Jim Voss

It was great to see Jim (James) Voss attend this week's meeting as a visitor. While he shares the same surname as President Sue, they are not related.

This was the third time that we have had the pleasure of Jim's company and hopefully, work pressure permitting, he may see his way clear to becoming a member.

A relatively recent arrival in Mt Eliza, Jim, who was born in America, is a Nuclear Engineer who is the President of The Terra Verde Group.

Welcome, Jim. We hope to see more of you.

LAUGHTER THE BEST MEDICINE
There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator ... only a fraction of the population will get this joke!

Q. What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo?

A. One is really heavy and the other is a little lighter.

Q. When does a joke become a 'dad' joke?

A. When it becomes apparent!

You know that it gets so cold in Canberra in Winter, the other day when visiting there I saw a politician with his hands in his own pocket!

I visited my friend at his new house. He told me to make myself at home, so I threw him out. I hate having visitors!
