Firstly, I am sorry I cannot be with you tonight.
The Golf Day I believe was a huge success in two ways – the money raised for Shine for Kids and in equal part the enjoyment of all those who participated. I have spoken with many of them and received many congratulatory emails with a number saying they cannot wait for the next one!
Each time we run these functions it is a learning curve and hopefully everyone benefits from the increased experience we gain each year. As is often the way with such events there are those in the limelight and those making all the wheels turn behind the scenes, and tonight I would just like to take the opportunity to name and give thanks to all of you who have helped so much in making the event so successful. The list is extensive but If I forget anyone, please forgive me, and let me know.
Firstly, our major sponsors:
Mercedes Benz Mornington – obtained by Leanne Porter
Pexa Online Property Settlements
Brynton and Harriet Fennell
Rowan and Margaret Miller
Bendigo Bank – obtained by Linda Morris
Hardy and Annie Jurachek for their incredibly generous donation of holiday accommodation.
Mike Weber and Michaelona Flavours for their sponsorship and generous donation of auction items
A big thank you to those who slaved over a hot stove producing those delicious slices. There was not a single slice left, the last plate being taken by a member who paid $10 for the privilege. To all the Chefs – Carolyn Such, Neil & Helen Heron ... and our delivery man – Chris Such.
Maurie Selth who spent the whole day under immense pressure firstly running the putting competition and then, at very short notice, jumping in to record all the auction sale details and collecting the money. Thanks Maurie, and a very Happy Birthday today.
Tim Worrall. Well, what I can say! He was to just run his gin stand, but I can vouch for the fact that he was into absolutely everything, helping out wherever it looked as if there was a need. So, a huge thank you, Tim.
Then there was Leanne Trembath, our newest Member, working like a machine helping and offering to help with the running of the day and in the tidying and cleaning of the Club rooms after most people had gone home. I say most, because another tower of strength in the running of the day and the big task of cleaning up was none other than our Harriet Fennell.
Tables and seating was to be a problem but thanks to John Welsh, who was able to borrow some from the Church, and Rohan Miller who also lent us some, we were able to seat everyone (100 diners!)
Good old Jim Young who organised and co-ordinated many bottles of wine from various wineries and donations from Members including himself.
Thanks also to Caryl Coulthard and Ross Schweitzer for obtaining so many interesting and different items for auction from local businesses, and, last but not least, all Club Members who donated items for the auction and assisted in a variety of ways.
The final figure for the day will be released shortly but I can say it will be in excess of $10,000, with some unsold auction items yet to be offered to Club Members and friends in a couple of weeks.
