The thoughts of President Ross.
We are well underway in ensuring that our Branch will be user friendly to future committees. In the near future IPP Jim Young will be familiar with ClubRunner and indeed he will take over the oversight of it, as I will in turn for P - E Sue Voss.
'Some' Members believe we should [continue to] include a synopsis of each speakers' presentation; others do not. At this time of Year we average 10 to 15 absences, and Carolyn says that's 'pretty normal'. So, we should give a nod to their wish to keep informed. Jim Young may decide to alter this, it will be his call; he has always been one for consensus. [I saw a coffee mug and on it was painted 'Consensus is everyone doing what I want']. You are permitted an inward smile.
Sometimes members think [as happened last week] that I have singled them out surreptitiously in the Bulletin. Not so. The recent case involved a member for whom I have the utmost respect. The subject was the absolute need to rotate members, but not at the expense of disenfranchising another. I agree with his opinion, and I commenced the procedure within 'my' Year. The next President will, I am certain, form her own model.
I cannot ignore counsel from a member who reminds me of my late grandfather! So there is a Ray of hope for the direction I'm taking.
I point out that we are a service organisation, not a bank. The brief introduction we afford our speakers must include something about us; Rotary. Take one of our major sponsors, if not the major sponsor 'Blue Croc'. Their business development manager, Harrison Mein, did not know the scope of our activities. Harrison is coming to speak to us soon, and we RCME are promoting Blue Croc, both as a fund raising tool, and to generate members for our Club. So, reprise: The brief introduction we afford our speakers must include something about us; Rotary.
This week's puzzle concerns the need for The Community to be inclusive. It also deals with the need for change.
One of my grandchildren turned nine today [see blatant, older photo]. She is learning subjects I have never heard of. Her sister just turned five. They both know how to use the various 'normal' appliances around their house. They know what 'PayWave' is and how to use an ATM, an EFTPOS machine and an on - board GPS.
So, my question is, on the topic of change in our Community. What do the new $5, $10, $20 and $50 bills have in common with the bottle of wine? [See photo] ... Hint: even 'it' has had to reinvent itself! You may need to visit the bank......
