President's Message

Thoughts from your President.

There's this President who jumps out of the window after Changeover; on the way down he's heard to call 'So far, so good'.
The individuals in any great club [as ours] when their individual efforts are combined, total more than 100 per cent; a mathematical impossibility. But we are multi - skilled and complement each other without complaint. How many others in the community know how to disassemble a playground and ship it overseas? Let alone at our age.
We ourselves as individuals are 'ordinary people' who others walk past without knowing our special calling. The most common question I am asked about involvement is a nonplussed "Why?". Do we not have 'better' things in our lives? I say, different things in our lives; some work, some are retired, some assist others, many [of us, at least] have families, grandchildren and even friends!
District require us to 'think outside the box' and not be hide - bound by captive thinking; lest we become irrelevant to those we seek to serve. To look at the intensity of members' efforts, not just its length. As Steve Daly said to me on the weekend ‘to serve our community, we need Service with impact’.

We do not say 'LONG Service above Self'; ask any of our beneficiaries.
A truck driver is no more or less important than the person who loads it.

Ross Schweitzer.

District Governor Elect Mark Humphries

What an exciting time we are about to head into, there are a couple of exciting events coming up in our District and I urge you to attend. District Governor on tour, WOW. Breaking the chains presentation is being held at Mornington Hotel, Sunday 25th August 2019. This is going to be an interesting and challenging night where District Governor Adrian is going to tell us about why we as baby boomers have become conservatives. We are are also going welcome Rotary International President Mark Maloney to Australia, Mark will be in Australia for a short time, during his stay here Mark is going to be the featured speaker at a special dinner. Tuesday 24th September 2019 at the Mercure Ballarat.  It is not everyday that we have the privilege of an International President visiting Australia, (except for our very own past Ian Riseley) I urge you to take up the opportunity while you can.
Also in August there is the Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) conference on. This is a special event where you can learn about what Rotary is doing, hear how international research is making major breakthrough. August 24 & 25th at Ciloms in Tullamarine. Would be great to see you there.

  • Summary of new viruses this week: Pakistan— nine wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases and 3 WPV1-positive environmental samples; Angola—  one circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus  (cVDPV2) case; China – one cVDPV2 case. See country sections below for more details.
