President Carolyn's Notes
Monthly Rotary Theme for
March
Water Sanitation and Hygiene

Over the weekend of March 16/17, I attended the Presidents Training Seminar (PETS) in Traralgon. This is the first PETS that combines the Districts 9810 and 9820 under our new banner of District 9815. We did have an update on regionalization and had a group discussion in our Rotary Community Groups (RCG). The main discussion was to agree what qualities were required for our Rotary Community Leader (RCL) and identify suitable candidates. Its up to Clubs to identify people and tap them on the shoulder if they haven’t applied already.

We have programmed a visit from two Rotarians engaged in an interstate bike ride in support of end polio. The visit is scheduled for April 23rd. There is an expectation that we will make a Club donation to end polio on the night.

There is a possibility of us being involved in a mock interviewing program at Padua campus in Mornington. Somerville-Tyabb Rotary have done a similar exercise at Padua in Tyabb. The school want to extend it to their Rosebud campus as well.

Last week we had a wonderful presentation from Kim Wheeler Principal of Mount Eliza Primary School. As well as outlining her vision for the school, Kim is an accomplished singer and was encouraged to perform a song for us. She sang Edelweiss and received a standing ovation.

Kim Wheeler - Principal Mt Eliza Primary School

Kim brings over 25 years of experience in the education sector in International, Independent and Government schools. Kim has had experiences that have taken her all over the world. In 2020, Kim returned to Mt Eliza having led the Junior School and the Long Day Early Learning Centre as Head of Campus of Firbank in Brighton. Prior to that Kim was Head of Wardle House. She is a passionate member of the MEPS community and is committed to providing the best possible education for all students. Her School seeks to inspire a love of learning in students and staff.  As an education institution, the School is passionate about student wellbeing, inquiry-based learning and connecting student learning to the world around them particularly through literacy. Kim also thanked the Club for our donations towards the sensory garden and library. Kim was an excellent speaker who impressed everyone with her professionalism and knowledge. Our community is lucky to have her at Mount Eliza Primary.

Brynton's  Joke

The local sheriff was looking for a deputy, so Gomer - who was not exactly the sharpest nail in the bucket went in to try out for the job.

"Okay," the sheriff drawled, "Gomer, what is 1 and 1?"

"11" he replied.

The sheriff thought to himself, "That's not what I meant, but he's right."

"What two days of the week start with the letter 'T'?"

"Today and tomorrow."

He was again surprised that Gomer supplied a correct answer that he had never thought of himself.

"Now Gomer, listen carefully: Who killed Abraham Lincoln?"

Gomer looked a little surprised himself, then thought really hard for a minute and finally admitted, "I don't know."

"Well, why don't you go home and work on that one for a while?"

So, Gomer wandered over to the pool hall where his pals were waiting to hear the results of the interview. Gomer was exultant.

"It went great! First day on the job and I'm already working on a murder case!"
