President's Message - Carolyn Such

The recent presentation by Street Side Medics was extremely well received by the Club.  Their objective of raising $35K for equipment is well within he scope of a Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Community Group involvement.  Its my intention to raise it as a possible collaborative project for the Community Group.
Recent Bunnings BBQs have been very successful.  The usual glitches on running out of materials aside.  Our Club roster has been manned by many firnds and family which is a great way for us to spread the load.  I was aware of several opportunities to promote Rotary and make people aware of our presence and how membership works.
Our Wheelchairs for Kids event at Mount Eliza Primary was a great success with funds for 21 wheelchairs raised.  This is a major initiative of our EarlyAct team with the help of staff and our senior Rotarians Cathryn Leonard and Do Costello.  Cathryn has carried the initiative forward and made contact with other schools Thomas Moore and Kunyung.
Our annual golf day was held on  March 31st.  It was an outstanding success with final figures yet to be delivered.  It was substantial with approximately $14000 raised.  This sum will be split between Code 9 and Interplast.  Once again it was superbly managed by David Rew and Grace with a large team of helpers.
Applications are now open for key Rotary youth projects RYLA and NYSF.  RYLA is targeted at 18-30 year olds and deals with professional development.  NYSF is a program we know well and is a career development program for young people interested in science based careers. We need to do everything we can to help fill the programs.
New members Yvonne and Andy Simpson are travelling in Cambodia on holiday.  They are planning to visit a school we support and supply school uniforms.    They are taking a suitcase full of art supplies.  The students produce cards that they sell to earn money for the school.  The cost of the supplies was $1000 and our club has agreed to pay $500.
I am looking forward to our social event at Fat Rice Thai  restaurant.  I know that this is a popular event because it was booked out very quickly.
