At the time of writing I am just back from a home hosting lunch with John and Ingrid Welsh. Together with Jim and Robyn and Ian and Janelle Spear we had a magnificent lunch created by John. It was John at his finest. Definitely no dinner tonight for Chris. I am reminded what a great concept home hosting is. You get to know members and their spouses much better. Did anyone know that Janelle Spear was a former Rotary exchange student to Zimbabwe. If you can get involved in home hosting I can recommend it.

We have a few sickies in the team at the moment. Rowan is going off to get a new knee. Neil of course is recovering from his accident getting off the ski lift in Japan. Neil is back in the country and will soon be back at home if he isn’t already. Carol Allen is recovering from her fall and a broken patella and our welfare officer Maurie Selth is a bit ordinary himself. Get well sickies we need you.

This week I delivered an easter egg hamper to Mount Eliza Secondary College. The hamper looked magnificent and was constructed by Claire. The school are running raffle to help fund a new outdoor structure that they can use.

It is disappointing that our International dinner needed to be cancelled. So many people were away so that numbers were an issue. We are not sure whether the event will be re-scheduled later so we are going to refund everyone that paid.

We have a very busy weekend with a Bunnings BBQ followed by our Golf Day on Monday 31^st. David and Grace Rew and their team have the event well in hand. Auctioneer Phil Key will be doing his thing so we are hoping for a good return from the day.

Yvonne Simpson has our social media under great control. Its generating good interest. Yvonne would like people to “like” the page.

Code 9 Foundation

Supporting first responders with PTSD

The Code 9 Foundation provides a place of support for

current & veteran professional first responders & 000 operators who live with PTSD,

depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions that result from their service to the community.

CODE 9 HELp FIRST RESPONDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES DIRECTLY BY:

Offering a safe space for first responders to connect and receive support and advice.
Supporting families with meals
Providing mental health referrals
Providing respite weekends
Facilitating mental health forums
Provide crisis accommodation
Running kids camps
Providing peer support
Sponsoring assistance dogs

I was overwhelmed with gratitude to be a recipient of a weekend away from Code 9.

Nothing like that ever happens to me.

I wanted to share the experience with my grandchildren and took them with me.

We stayed at a lovely villa on Phillip Island and the beautiful weather, plentiful tourist activities or just simply hanging at the beach brought reminders of what is important in life.

We cut through the noise of the daily grind and the fog of the past and indulged in the luxury of time and peace to do whatever we want.

I've come home exhausted but, somehow completely recharged and feeling ready to face the challenges forever present, with a little more strength and hope.

I can't possibly express how much this has meant to me.

Thank you doesn't seem nearly enough.

Our club in partnership with the Order of Saint John provides funds for some of the afflicted to avail themselves of a few days of respite by which they can escape from the environment which can trigger recurrences of the trauma which all too often dictate a life full mental disturbance
