President's Message - John Welsh

President’s report 16th February 2023

Last Tuesday 21 st Feb we celebrated international month with our Guest speaker Paul Roos who spoke about the current situation in South Africa,” the Good the Bad and the Ugly”. It was a powerful talk with lots of information that most of us were unaware. Thanks to Mike Weber for introducing Paul and also to Maurie for arranging the night.

Maurie, apart from being international director also looks after membership. He arranged with me to induct 4 new members, Jenny baker, Iain Spear, Melanie Aldis and Colin Savage into our club on Tuesday night. With Carol Wallace and Annette Ferrier, we have a healthy start to the new year.

Great new members looking forward to service with our club. It was a positive night with over 50 attending, looking good for this year.

This weekend is conference for our district 9280, DG Paul Mees tells me that he has a number of interesting things happening over the weekend so I look forward to the event.

As you know, our own member Linda Humphries will be the next DG, and on the weekend will tell the attendees about her conference next year on the 23rd -25th February 2024 in Warrnambool. Some of us will be helping to advertise it this weekend. Hope you picked up one of the postcards advertising the conference last Tuesday.

Carolyn will talk about her President elect conference next Tuesday we also have a guest speaker Matthew Sonnerman regarding the stock market and economic update.

I look forward to seeing you then,

Regards

John

In Lieu of Brynton's Joke of the Week
In lieu of Brynton's Joke of the week - it only seems fitting in lieu of Judy's wonderful win to have some golf jokes.

Golf’s a hard game to figure. One day you’ll go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps, and miss every green. The next day you go out and, for no reason at all, you really stink.

Golf is like marriage: If you take yourself too seriously it won’t work… and both are expensive.

What should NASA do if it wants to explore water on Mars?
Send a golfer there to hit a golf ball.

Why do golfers always carry a spare pair of trousers with them?
In case they get a hole in one.

And to finish off - an oldie but a goodie

Two golfers are ready to play on the 11th tee as a funeral cortege passes by. The first player stops, doffs his cap, and bows his head as the cortege passes.
“That was a really nice thing to do,” the second golfer says. “It’s good to see there is still some respect in the world.” "Well, it’s only right,” the first golfer replies. “I was married to her for 35 years.”
