President's Message - Carolyn Such

Welcome everyone to our first bulletin for 2025.  The Board has made a decision that as a trial we will produce the bulleting once a month.  It will issue on the third week of the month.  It will include the program and also the rosters for the following month.  It’s important for members to record their duties in their personal diaries.  Jim will review once he starts his Presidency.

We did have a very busy time leading up to Xmas.  Thank you to Carol Wallace who organised a team of members to help with the Xmas lunch at the Senior Citizen’s held at the Mount Eliza Community Centre.

The Community Committee also distributed bags of sweets to the aged care facility in Mount Eliza Way as a special treat for Xmas.  Trish Stamp did a great job handling our hamper program with extra hampers going to members of the St James the Less congregation.  The Youth Committee had a busy month in December presenting citizenship certificates to several primary schools in the Mount Eliza area.  Catherine Leonard and I attended Moun t Eliza Primary and finished off the campaign to collect toothpaste/brushes for the three community support centres on the Mornington Peninsula.  I think everyone deserved a holiday.

We have started the New Year well.  I thought that our traditional  New Years breakfast was fun and very well attended.  Its always fun at CBs where we could celebrate with our local CFA Captain Mark Turnham.  The events in LA are a sombre reminder of how important their role is.

Thanks to those members who presented their stories.  John Horscroft’s story of an incredible life coincidence was a clear winner in my view.
The holidays are over.  The Club is in full swing for the year ahead.

Rotary Themes for the month

January is Vocational Services month

During this period, Clubs have the opportunity to highlight the importance of the business and professional life of each Rotarian.

We are a little challenged in this area as many of our members are now retired. We do utilise business skills

in the mentoring support we offer to young people, however there is an opportunity for us to expand our

membership to include more community business owners and operators thereby fostering an atmosphere

more focussed on shared business networking.

What could we consider doing as a Club in contributing to this theme?

• Distribute Four-way Test at our Markeys and BBQs

• Distribute Vocational Awards to outstanding individuals, Arrange Vocational Visits
