President's Message - John Welsh

Hi Fellow Rotarians

I had a good meeting with Rowan regarding the market. We look forward to welcoming him back to dinner meetings or fellowship nights. He was back on deck for the last market for the Lions club. He is available for the next market (25th) so we need to support him with a couple of people early to help his set up. Rob Cracknel is organizing the rosters as we speak. We will retain the scouts to help Rowan at the end but will need members to stay on to help with the cleanup of the trailers at the end of the shift. The rosters will set this out.

We had a good turnout last week and it was interesting to hear Dick Cox telling us of the environmental problems at the end of the bay and the various ways that are being tried to overcome the problems.

With regard to fellowship, we look forward to Judy’s Petanque night next Tuesday and Jim's quiz night and the Cup eve function at the Vietnamese Restaurant. More info to follow.

There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes, Youth and environment are trying to reconnect to the local schools, there is a large community project regarding the furniture at the old Mt Eliza business school, Ben from the Mornington Community center explained some of the project when he was at the club a few weeks ago.  The environment committee is still on track with the planting and weeding project with the Bay Trail,

Thanks once again to all members on the rosters last week particularly Bernie with his lap top technology.  Look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Cheers John

A Rotary Quiz Night will be held at the Mt Eliza Bowling Club at 6.00 pm for a 6.30 start on Tuesday 11 October.
Teams will be made up of six players
You are encouraged to invite friends and family members.
Individuals will be placed into teams on the night.
Prizes for members of the winning teams.

We are hoping to raise a relatively small amount of money that will go to projects of the Vocational Committee.
Rotarian Bernie Edwards will arrange for bookings to be made through Humanitix. Bookings will open later next week.

Melbourne Cup Calcutta on Monday 31 October, Le Hoang Restaurant - Please diarise now.

In the tradition started by the late Rotarian Tim Acton, the Club will be holding a Melbourne Cup Calcutta at Le Hoang Vietnamese Restaurant on Monday 31 October.
The whole restaurant has been booked out and is specially opening for Rotary. Up to 80 attendees can be catered for so everyone is asked to invite as many people as possible.
The Melbourne Cup horses will be auctioned by Rotarian Phil Key. You may like to join with others in attendance to pool your resources in order to obtain one of the favoured chances (Keeping in mind that the occasional long shot does get up - think of Michelle Payne on Prince of Penzance at 100 to 1 in the 2015 Cup).

Be there to enjoy a great fun evening.
Monies raised will used for local community activities.
Again, bookings will be made through Humanitix and will open in a few weeks' time.

Brynton's Joke of the Week
My Favourite Animal

Our teacher asked what my favourite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else laughed.

My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favourite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of the RSPCA.

He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office.

I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favourite live animal was.

I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.

She sent me back to the principal's office. He laughed and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am.

Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired the most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders."

Guess where the Hell I am now...
