President's Message - John Welsh

Hi Fellow Rotarians,

Carolyn, Judy, Phil and Rob and I met up with Scott McDermott the Golf pro running the
participating in the special Olympics in Tasmania in October. We confirmed our donation of $700
and asked if the club can help his program in a physical sense, not mentoring but maybe assisting.
He will get back to us after the Special Olympics.

The Petanque night last week was great fun, a good fellowship night. I think the club needs more of
these sorts of nights, not expensive and a lot of fun. Many thanks to Judy and Suzie for arranging it
for us.

This Tuesday we will hold a straw poll regarding the Zone 8 pilot then I will vote as directed. I do
encourage you to vote yes. For the information I sent out and Peter Rawlings talk a couple of weeks
ago it seems to me a necessity, to at least look at change which is what the pilot will do.

The rosters for the market are being set up by Rob for next week, please check and respond.
Don’t forget to bring guests to the Calcutta Cup Eve function at the Le Hoang Vietnamese Restaurant.
Please put in your diaries: 29th November, we have our DG Paul Mee and his wife Adele visit.
Carolyn will present to the club her Interplast plan on the 27th September.
I hope you have a good week.
Regards
John

Stories
Mount Martha Petanque Evening
Mt Martha Petanque Fellowship Night

Thirty of our members had a terrific night testing their arms at our Petanque night last Tuesday followed by a great dinner put on by the Mt Martha Bowling and Petanque Club.
We were blessed by having a fine evening, but it became quite dark and really cold, and it was decided that a glass of red or other beverages may be the way to go.
Andrea Bowles and members of MT Martha "Bouledrome" put on a fantastic meal of pre-dinner munchies, a build you own burger meal and lovely cake for sweets.
Many thanks to Caryl Coulthard for helping our Judy and I with all the preparations and serving and Linda Morris for extra choccies to go with coffee.

It was a great introduction to the game with many squeals of laughter and joy and the general comment was that we must do it again in warmer weather during Daylight Savings hours.
