This week's Bulletin has suffered as unfortunately the editor, Suzie, has been struck down by pancreatitis and had a trip to hospital. Compounding this, photographer Mike, along with side kick Tim, have fallen to Covid. To boot I failed to convert most of Mikes photos to jpg format - need an updated app! Hence a late publication and a hastily compiled edition. Our best wishes to Suzie, Mike and Tim and a wish for a speedy recovery. Cheers, Neil
Last weeks meeting was the Club AGM and also a visit from DG Linda Humphries and Mark. Of course Linda and Mark are members of our Club but its good to get her higher level perspective of District amalgamation and regionalisation. Linda was quite positive about the benefits and strengthening of Rotary longer term.
Of course the most exciting news from the AGM was the announcement of our own Jim Young as Club Service Director and President Elect for 2025-202r. Congratulations Jim and I look forward to working with you and your team. Thanks to those members who have agreed to join the Board for the 2024-2025 Club year.
This weekend is a busy one. One Saturday the satellite club doing its sausage sizzle the Ritchies community day. Also on Saturday we are combining with Mornington Rotary to support the Santa Train Run. We are expecting around 120 children to take the train from Mornington to Moorooduc station where they will have a BBQ lunch and receive an age appropriate gift. Bunnings will be there also to give another gift when they get back on the train. The Mount Eliza CFA will be there and the community police team will hand out the gifts. The children have great fun and are quite spoilt on the day. Thanks to Somerville Tyabb Rotary for the use of their BBQ trailer.

I was so good to have Linda back at her home club this week. What a challenging year she has had as the last District Govenor for District 9820. On top of the normal District Govenor duties she is up to her neck in the merger with District 9810 and set up of the new combined District 9815, and the work involved in upcoming Zone Regionalization Trial. To top it off, the cncellation of the District Conference and what is to be put in its place, needs to be sorted out. Linda needs to be a conduit of the updates of all this to the clubs in the District. Linda shared the state of play of everything, however, the situation with much of what is happening is so fluid that it is difficult to stay up to date. The Conference was one example. There was a less than 100 paid up registrations so they had no option but to cancel due to the financial loss if they continued. The large venue that was booked was one financial burden 70 - 80 registrations could not cover. One thing will go on and that is the Golf Day, so golfers have a great day and get involved. Linda delivered the RI message, reinforcing Rotary's key role in our world and its growing demands on Rotary members and clubs.
Mark gave us a sobering update on the Foundatrion, the major funding body of Rotary. The 60% of Clubs/members that donate to the Foundation is surprisingly low. Mark was complimentary of our Club with the level we have maintained over the years. He also gave us an update on the Polio plus project. The will is still there and the cost looks as if it is within our scope but it still needs that final push and support if we are to attain the goal of eradication of Polio. Mark stressed the importance of the Foundation and that clubs need to make Rotary projects the focus of fund raising.

This event will be held at Toorak College from 6.00 pm onwards for 7.00 pm dinner on Tuesday, 12 December.
Enjoy a glass (or two) of sparkling wine or mineral water with canapés on the terrace.
Following the canapés and sparkling drinks we will repair inside for traditional Christmas fare.
Doors to the Dining Room will open at 6.50 pm.
The cost of the evening is $50. This covers drinks on the terrace, canapés, main meal, dessert (individual Christmas puddings) and chocolates. (vegetarian and gluten free options available)

A very elderly couple is having an elegant dinner to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. The old man leans forward and says softly to his wife, “Dear, there is something that I must ask you. It has always bothered me that our tenth child never quite looked like the rest of our children. Now I want to assure you that these 75 years have been the most wonderful experience I could have ever hoped for, and your answer cannot take that all that away. But, I must know, did he have a different father?” The wife drops her head, unable to look her husband in the eye, she paused for a moment and then confessed. “Yes. Yes he did.” The old man is very shaken, the reality of what his wife was admitting hit him harder than he had expected. With a tear in his eye he asks “Who? Who was he? Who was the father?” Again the old woman drops her head, saying nothing at first as she tried to muster the courage to tell the truth to her husband. Then, finally, she says, “You.”
