Thoughts of your President.

Our Club guest speaker was Rev. Chris Cohen; he was accompanied by his wife Barbara Cohen. Before the meeting commenced, Chris and I bantered about a few matters (we are of similar age). Cohen is a Jewish name, and means Rabbi. Chris remarked about sometimes having to clarify the fact that he’s a practicing Christian. I wondered aloud if he’d ever been booked by a synagogue.

Chris was a National Serviceman during the VietNam war. He and Barbara manipulated their wedding date and regiment so he could go, but was thwarted by the Army. ‘twas ever thus. 😬

I have yet to meet a contemporary whose marble did not come out of the barrel. It was meant to be a ballot. A cynic may reflect upon Matthew 6:30.

Chris’ career brought him into contact with many people I know (as does Neil Heron who by chance sat with us). Some of these known associations are quite amazing in their seeming coincidence.

Space does not permit a resume of the Cohen’s careers and lives, but it is evident that they are an influence for good in the World.

Our Branch is near 50 strong, excluding Friends and Honorary Members. It is for us to decide as individuals how we contribute.

District Governor Elect Mark Humphries

Breathe a sigh of relief, a very short message this week. Linda & I have been training, Governor Elect Training and Zone conference in Christchurch. Governor training is full on. Training wheels are off, workload increasing.

Rotary truly is an International Organisation. We heard from quake survivors and quake rebuilders. We heard how much work, people and funds Rotary provided. Australia Rotarians were mentioned time and time again.

We heard from the Imam, what a powerful session that was! We heard his heart felt thanks. A standing ovation was in order. Powerful Powerful stuff.

Our reach is close, our reach is far. We must remember, Rotary Connects the World, we are People of Action.

SUCH a Party 🎈🥳💃
Saturday 30 November
Carolyn Such announced on Tuesday that our Christmas 🎄 Party will be held at St James the Less on 30 November. It is not only a fund - raiser, but a membership drive.

The venue was was secured at a very favourable rate by John Paterson, whom I sincerely thank.

To our our great delight 😃 music  🎹🎷🎻🥁🎸 is being provided pro bono by Alex Anderson jp and his Swingers.

Now, Carolyn expects 120 attendees. Trust me; be very afraid. The soirée is not only, although the price per head is really modest, a fund - raiser; it is a major new member drive.

The event is ‘bring a plate - byo’ and there is a spit roast, facilitated by the indefatigable John Welsh.

Do not expect any let - up from Carolyn. She can make people’s lives a misery. Ask me... better still Chris. 😂
