President's Message - John Welsh

President’s report 2nd February 2023

Bulletin 3rd March.

Last Tuesday Matthew Sonderman, stockbroker and financial manager from Ord Minnett gave an interesting talk on, superannuation. From the level of questions from members I am sure we have a lot of experts within the club. Very interesting view of the financial situation over the next 12 months.

Judy Coultas won the golf competition last Friday at the District conference, Congratulations Judy.

The speakers at the conference were all very different, Julia and Jordy Kay young entrepreneurs with a fast growing international company producing a wrap product made from potatoes! Used instead of food wrap and they are working on an industrial product for pallet wrapping, saving tons of plastic wrap. The product breaks down very quickly. Jordy was very positive about the future environment with all the innovations in the pipeline at the moment.

Kate Roffey, the first female President of the Melbourne football Club talked of the barriers that needed to be overcome to achieve her goals. Very interesting talk.

Samuel Johnson who heads a charity called ‘Love your sister” gave an incredibly emotional talk. He showed videos of his sister whose death from breast cancer was the motivating factor that has set him on this charity path. He has made millions of dollars for research. A memorable talk. Sunday morning Kevin Sheedy was keynote speaker; it was a great motivational talk.

Our own Linda Humphries the next District Governor presented the venue for the district Conference next February, which will be in Warrnambool. All in all it was an interesting weekend lots of information and great fellowship.

Next Tuesday we have Gabe Hau talking to us about Peace Building in Rotary. This is a subject dear to Mark Humphries heart, he will be the Chair on this evening.

I look forward to seeing you then,

Regards

John
