President Carolyn's Notes

Last Tuesday we had an international spit roast dinner at the Suchs house.  Most fortunately the 50mm of rain fell the night before so we were able to use some of the outside spaces.   Dinner for 52 is a big event.  A spit roast doesn’t just cook itself.  John Welsh spent eight hours supervising.  Thanks John.  An easter hunt was won by Di Key.  In addition, the wine raffle was drawn and thanks to Maurie Selth for his organisation once again.  The winner newish member Keith  Den Hartog was thrilled and he said he was usually most unlucky with raffles.  The rest of the meal was supplied by Jenny Baker and her International committee.
Already the International committee has decided to make a donation of $500 to End Polio.  This will be announced formally when we have a visit and presentation by two visiting Rotarians Joyce and Phil Ogden from the Rotary Club of South Launceston on 23rd April   Joyce and Phil are riding a tandem bike from Adelaide to Sydney via Melbourne.  They will be visiting  thirty Rotary clubs along the way.
Rosters are finalised for the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday 7th.  Everyone rostered needs to remember that daylight savings ends on that day.  Your clocks go back one hour.  Don’t be late.

International Spit Roast Fund Raiser
International Fund Raiser
The Roast Beef Spit night held at President Carolyn's house as a Fund Raiser for the International Committee was wonderful succees on many fronts. As you would expect, Master Chef John Welsh cooked a magnificent joint of beef, Jenny's committee created a wonderful spread of "sides" to go with it as well as a bountiful array of deserts, and Maurie Selth ran an excellent raffle.  Carolyn and Chris Such were marvellous hosts and the weather was surprisingly acceptable for the evening considering the rain of the previous day.

Mauries report is succinct and very positive: "Result $2005.87 profit. Magnificent effort by all members.  Winner of 12 bottles of Barossa/ Clare Valley  shiraz was new member Keith den Hartog.   Many thanks to everyone." It was good to see a new member taking home the spoils. Well done Keith.

Best thing was the wornderful support of members and friends for the evening. A very successful night for our International Committee. Well done Jenny and her committee

The President draws the winning ticket. John on the job.                                                                                                                 Some of the punters surprised by the result!

Brynton's  Joke
Brynton's Joke of the Week
Dont blame  Brynton for this one - editor

During the final days at Denver’s old Stapleton airport, a crowded United flight was canceled.

The single agent was rebooking a long line of very inconvenienced and frustrated travelers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk in front of all the others. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, “I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS.”

The agent replied, “I’m sorry sir. I’ll be happy to try to help you, but I’ve got to help these folks first, and I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out.”

The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that all the passengers behind him could hear, “Do you have any idea who I am?”

Without hesitating, the gate agent smiled warmly and grabbed her public address microphone. “May I have your attention please?” she began, her voice bellowing throughout the entire terminal. “We seem to have a passenger here at the gate WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come forward to the gate and help him.”

With the folks behind him in line now laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth, and stormed off.
