Our First Club Night with new Committees
I was pleased with our first Club Assembly for our Rotary year.  I thought that being in our committees  from the start of the meeting saved us time.  The Assembly may not completely replace the need for separate committee discussions but it gave all Directors a good start in setting priorities and a budget.  Next month we will try to leave sufficient time for Directors to report back to the Club.
I have just received the final detailed report from the Interplast surgical and mentoring team visit to Tonga.  Interplast are looking forward to presenting the results when they are with us on Tuesday August 15th.

This Week's Speaker
This Week's Speaker
Club Assembly Night
Rather than a separate Speaker this week we had the first of our Club Assembly Round Table Meetings

Each member sat in their respective Committees and many fruitful discussions were held of the
workings of each committee for the coming year.

All relevant committee information will be discussed at the next Board meeting

The results of the fireside meetings were also distributed and discussed.

I'm reprinting this just to remind everyone to let Jim know if you want to be involved in Home Hosting
You should have let Jim know by last Friday but I'm sure he'd accept a couple of late Home Hosters if necessary

Rotary Club of Mt Eliza – HOME HOSTING 2023-24

A popular activity at our Club over many years has been Home Hosting; an activity that
allows members to enjoy fellowship in smaller groups at each other’s homes.
Participants in Home Hosting invite two (or more) Rotarians: partners, where applicable,
to their home for either lunch or dinner. Single Rotarians are easily able to participate.
In turn, participants are invited to the home of two other Rotarians to share a meal.
A roster is drawn up and distributed to all those who are interested and have put their
names forward. Home Hosting is now open and will close on Friday, 25 August. The roster
will be drawn up and distributed in the first week of September. Unfortunately, once the
roster is finalised it is not possible to add further names.
If you put your name down for Home Hosting there is an obligation to fully participate and
invite those assigned to you to your home.
Those who are interested in being involved in Home Hosting are asked to email Jim Young –

James.young03@bigpond.com no later than COB on Friday, 25 August

Brynton's Joke of the Week
Brynton's Joke of the Week
An Englishman, Scotsman, Welshman, and Irishman are caught for desertion, court-marshalled and sentenced to death by firing squad.

Before being shot they were asked if they had any last requests:

The Welshman replied, “Before I die, I would like to hear 1000 Welsh voices singing ‘Land of my Fathers’”.

The Irishman replied, “Before I die, I would like to see 1000 Irish dancers performing ‘Riverdance’”.

The Scotsmen replied, “Before I die, I would like to hear 1000 bagpipes playing ‘Scotland the Brave’”.

“And you, Englishman! What is your last request?”

“For goodness' sake, please shoot me first!”
