President's Message - John Welsh

President’s report 21st January 2023

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

Our Farmers’ Market is on this weekend. The weather forecast is for 26 deg and no rain, so it should be a busy day. Linda and Rob have organised the food, Neil has set up the trailers, the rosters are in place, so we are all set to go.

Thanks to Judy once again for arranging interesting speakers for our meetings. Rob and Luke from
Mornington Green explained their Legacy Garden in Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, where you can have a tree planted in memory of a loved one. An interesting concept and one that Judy is taking up and is planting a tree for Michael.

Next week we have Dr Iain Buckland coming to share with us. His subject is, “Beware Historian at Work... the Perils of Historical Research.” Iain has spoken to us before on other interesting subjects so one not to be missed.

I bumped into DG Paul Mee and his wife Adele at the Mornington art show who shared that he is looking forward to his visit to the club on February 7th. There will be lots of time to ask him questions. Please put this date in your diaries.

The district conference is on at the end of February 24th -26th if you intend to go, please book soon.

Neil has proposed to reinstate environment workdays on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Work will be for an hour or two. More information to follow.

There is a proposal yet to be confirmed regarding home hosting. The second Tuesday in March could be an opportunity for those who haven’t completed the home hosting to do so on this night. It was thought that it could be a good opportunity to involve new members. I would be interested in your
thoughts.

I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

Warm Regards,

Regards
John

This Week's Speakers
This week's 3-minute speaker was Trish Stamp who alerted us to the difficulties when NOT using a Travel Agent when booking holidays.

Our main Speakers were Rob and Luke from Mornington Green Legacy Gardens who explained the idea for you and family members to place their ashes under the planting of a "Legacy Tree". They explained how by becoming a tree helps to save the planet and save thousands compared to the costs of a traditional funeral, and somewhere that all your family members can be included over time.
