How time flies, we are nearly at the end of the first half of the Rotary year and, although a frustrating one in many aspects, we are still maintaining a positive and active presence and it seems as busy as ever. The AGM signals the start of preparing for the following Rotary year and the assurance we will be continuing to assist in our community and abroad where we can. Remember the AGM is on MONDAY not the usual Tuesday. It is at the Le Hoang Restaurant at 6.00pm and is a Partners night. The cost is $30 and is BYO or you can buy drinks there. If you haven’t told Pauline you are attending DO IT NOW please so the restaurant can prepare . Thank you.
 
The Farmers Market is getting back into the usual pattern and is traditionally busy at this time of year so be prepared to be hard at it on Sunday. The Farmers Market will have its QR codes up at each gate and a sign in sheet for those members of the public without a smart phone. Thank you to all members who have signed up George-Ann for the roster. Bernie and the Board have been busy organising new portable A-Frames for club publicity and with a bit of luck will be on display this Sunday.  They are designed so that we can change the display to reflect any project, event, advertising or activity the club is doing/planning at short notice.
 
I am happy to remind everyone about our two main fundraisers at present – The Christmas presents for the Train Ride on December 4th (Donate via Humanatix) and the Christmas  Hampers for local needy families (Donate via the club’s bank Account). My thanks to both Linda and Trish respectively for their work on these excellent projects.  
 
Justin and the Environment committee have rescheduled his inaugural Beach clean up to Sunday, 5th December at 9.00am at the Frankston Boat Ramp at the base of Oliver’s Hill. Hopefully the weather will be vastly improved than at their last attempt earlier this month.
 
For once the Calendar has remained unchanged for the upcoming weeks. Hopefully a good omen for the times to come. See you all this Sunday at the Market and/or then on Monday at our meeting at Le Hoang, cheers, Neil

Beyond Water

Beyond Water was formed in 2007.  1 Billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and a further 2 Billion do not have access to sewerage. Beyond Water is a Trust in New Zealand and Kenya and a Charity in Australia. The aim is to raise the living standard of people in Africa, where 4,500 die each day due to lack of clean water.
 
Toilets in schools are a priority of the project, with water for handwashing at each toilet block. There is a health education day after each toilet block is completed, to educate the necessity of hygiene, particularly hand washing. Undercover angels provide underwear for children. There are Medical Clinics. One in 20 children die in childbirth in Kenya. Wildlife can also be a health hazard.
Girl Projects was started to distribute sanitary products. Guest Speakers address girls on health issues. There is training for girls in the use of computers.
 
Every $1 invested in water and sanitation projects gives a $4 return in productivity. The local Community has to contribute labour to projects, with all work done under supervision. A list was shown of possible donations. This list was to be sent to our Club to consider. 100% of all donations goes to the projects.

We have a Club Yearly Calendar which Neil and Pauline are the authors and editors. The calendar outlines every meeting with whom is the Coordinator, Speaker, Sergeant etc.  If you would like to add something please email Neil or Pauline.

Jim and the Fellowship team have presented a challenge. One Rotarian invite 2 fellow Rotarians plus a prospective member for coffee. All documented through Jim. Jim and team are also considering a cold water swim at Sunnyside beach.
Frank Flowers was fined $2 for Melbourne winning the Premiership. $1 was for 2021, the other dollar  was for 2022.
