Hi everybody

As has been discovered over the last twelve months, we need to be nimble and flexible as we go forward. In this context I thank our guest speaker this week, Bronwyn Hughes.

At very late notice Bronwyn presented a power point presentation on "The History of Lead Lighting in Churches on the Peninsula." Bronwyn, who lives in Mt Eliza, was accompanied by her husband David. Thank you Bronwyn and David.

Progress is being made on the development of our  Satellite Club.

There was a face-to-face meeting on Saturday 27 February at Deganis in Mt Eliza, followed up by a combination in person and Zoom meeting at my office on Sunday 14 March.

We currently have 6 Member Information forms completed and have appointed a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  There are still several potential Members to still return information forms.

The next meeting is via Zoom tomorrow, Wednesday 24 March

Projects that have emerged as being of special interest are Youth and Environment.  I anticipate seeing the Satellite Club launched in May with a specific project in place. This is an exciting development for our Club and all members are encouraged to learn more as the Satellite Club is fully established.

Until next time
Yours in Rotary
Sue

District Governor Mark Humphries and Past President Linda Humphries

Greetings to all members of the Rotary Club of Mt Eliza and other readers of this Bulletin.

This week I would like to again make a request that was in the recent District 9820 Bulletin.

Assistance is being requested for Rotarians to aid research by helping with a study of hip fractures.

Not something we like to dwell upon, but hip fractures are a painful reminder of our bodies being not as resilient because of our bones getting older, so I believe. This one could be of interest to some of our members.

As a guest speaker at a recent District Fire Side chat, Sharon Allsop, nurse and PhD student at Monash University Peninsula Campus, spoke about her study and work with hip fracture recovery.

The hip fracture recovery study focuses on the experiences of discharge and recovery post hip fracture from the perspective of people having had a hip fracture and those who are close to them.

Sharon is primarily interested in people who have experienced fragility fracture, a break in the proximal end of the femur, from a fall from standing height.

Sharon is keen to hear from people from across our District as many studies have a large amount of data from city-based people, Sharon is keen to hear from those who are in our country areas, as their experience is often very different to city dwellers.

The study is authorised by the Monash ethics department and all information will be de-identified.

The study involves a 1:1 interview lasting approximately 30-45 minutes, it can be done face-2-face or via Zoom.

If you would like to be part of the study, please email  Sharon.allsop1@monash.edu  )yes you have read that correctly allsop1 and correct there is no .au after 'edu')

Until next time
Warm regards
Mark & Linda

Congratulations to Rotarian Linda Humphries

Following on in a tradition that was established by PDG's Charlie & Janne Speirs, it was delightful to hear at last week's Club Meeting that PP Linda Humphries (and wife of our current DG Mark) has been selected to be the Governor of District 9820 in 2023/24.

Warm congratulations Linda!

Guest Speaker

Our guest speaker this week was Bronwyn Hughes, OAM, who spoke on the fascinating subject of "Stained Glass round our neck of the woods".

Bronwyn, accompanied by her husband David, provided members with a wonderful talk about various examples of stained glass windows in Frankston and Mt Eliza. Following her talk Bronwyn answered a large number of questions from members.

ADFAS  LECTURE - 26 March
Friend of our Club, Tim Acton, passes on this message about the Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (ADFAS)
Hi Rotary Club of Mount Eliza Members

ADFAS Mornington is holding its 2nd lecture of the 2021 season live (ie back to normal) on Fri 26th March at 5.30pm  in the Peninsula Community Theatre, Wilson Road, Mornington.

The speaker will be Prof Peter McPhee AM and his subject will be “Two women paint the French Revolution”; the artists in the title are Adelaide Labelle-Guillard and Elizabeth Viquee-Lebrun and the lecture will outline the  lives and achievements of these two extraordinary women.

Prof McPhee is an Australian academic, former Provost of University of Melbourne, author of several books on the French Revolution  and French history and renowned speaker.

I personally am a huge fan of ADFAS, find their lecture series of a high standard every year irrespective of the subject and encourage you to consider becoming a member.

A good way to “put your foot in the water” would be to come to the lecture on Fri 26th March. The lecture runs from 5.30pm sharp for a little over an hour, followed by wine and sandwiches.

Cost for visitors is $30.00 per person (and less of course for members!).

If you would like to come along, please ring me on 0418 310727 and I will do the rest.

You will not be sorry!

Cheers Tim

LAUGHTER THE BEST MEDICINE
America is one of the few countries in the world where a significant proportion of the population believes that professional wrestling is real but the moon landing was faked.

Paddy had a racing snail that cleaned up in five or six events.

However, after a few months it stopped winning.
Paddy decided to remove its shell to make it more streamlined.

However, this didn't work. If anything it made the snail more sluggish.

When I was a young teenager my father and I had a running joke. If anyone asked what he did for a living I always said, " He's a Sports Mechanic. He fixes boxing matches and horse races."

Once I told this to a new teacher who didn't see the funny side of my joke. The teacher summoned my parents and complained about my smart alec behaviour.

The teacher then asked my father what he really did.

Dad, who was a Sales Representative for a pharmaceutical company, replied, "I sell drugs!"
