President's Message

The thoughts of President Ross.

Our Guest Speaker last night was Dr Ben Carvosso. Ben is a Performance Coach, speaker and author. He is also a failed coconut tree climber; living proof that what goes up.... and he didn't have anything clever to call out as he fell. Like 'this is really going to hurt'. But I digress; my belief is that I should have met Ben sooner.
I always thought outside the box, an overworked expression. In the past I employed a Chinese accountant, and he attested to my ability to achieve results even though 'some' said it could not be done. Worse, he adopted some of my 'logic' in determining probable outcomes.

What I think is that we see abilities in each other that we do not see in ourselves [or deny we have, being self - effacing]. We 'load' work onto members. We seem to have a standard set of volunteers, each of whom is endowed with a bottomless pit of goodwill and capability. I'm thinking that [short of being clones] they are like it beyond Rotary.

Is this why we should rotate roles each Year? Yes, is being my answer; save for the Secretary, where I believe that two Years is necessary. Trust me. The Secretary is the link between Presidents. Or, the chain .....

Humor from my recently departed friend and soul mate, Philip. Not a Rotarian, he always played in the various golf days, most recently at Lang Lang along with Martine and Judy C. : We were on our Course waiting to tee off, and another 4 golfers appeared. Philip looked at them and said 'Aha! Three golfers and a &%@#*!'  Think about it.

It could be said I am not universally popular, but that is not my job description. For my part, I would like to have met a number of our members sooner in Life, whether they think so or not. Ladies and Gentlemen all.

District Governor Elect Mark Humphries

World Polio day was October 24th, it was history making! On this day health experts certified the global eradication of the type 3 strain, which hasn't been detected anywhere in the world since Nigeria identified a case of polio that it caused in November 2012!
